Child I care : from 2008-2014 , this project was implemented in all 42 villages of Ngororero sector in Ngororero District with the aim to equip parents, men and women, with positive parenting skills.
First Read project : from 2014-2015, First Read project was implemented in two sectors of Ngororero district ( Muhororo and Ngororero) in partnership with Save the Children and it focused on developing emergent literacy skills in children aged
0-6.
Frist step/Intera za mbere project : from 2015-2021, in partnership with Save the Children, this project was implemented in 4 Districts : 13 sectors in Ngororero , 3 sectors in Gasabo District, 6 sectors in Ruhango , and 11 sectors in Kirehe district. The project was a nationally scalable approach to promoting healthy early childhood education by offering parenting education to
parents of 0-3 years old.
Child Protection : Umuhuza in partnership with Save the Children has been training parent facilitators, and positive discipline champions from different parts of the country on how to advocate and contribute to efforts to promote child rights protection. Since 2017, the project, “Strengthening an Accountable Governance that Protects and Delivers Child Rights.” (Uburere Budahutaza Umwana) has been carried out in 18 sectors of Burera and Ruhango Districts.
Renovation and Internationalization of community ECD centers
Umuhuza has led the rehabilitation of 6 ECD centers including 1 new established in Musanze Prison, while building the capacity of RCS staff to scale up the knowledge to ECD caregivers in other four prisons with female inmates (Mageragere, Muhanga, Ngoma, and Nyamagabe).
ECD monitoring : ECD Monitoring project is implemented in Kirehe and Ruhango districts in partnership with districts in 2021. The project aims to assess, monitor and supervise ECD services in Kirehe and Ruhango districts to ensure the effective delivery of integrated ECD services such as : literacy activities, Hygiene and sanitation among others for all children under 6 years.
Championing Play : Championing Play is a pilot project implemented in 4 sectors of Kirehe district in partnership with Save the Children in 2021. The project aims to promote play based learning for children aged 0-3.
Gikuriro kuri Bose : Gikuriro Kuri Bose, the Inclusive Nutrition and Early Childhood Development (INECD) program is a USAID funded five-year project aiming to improve the health, functioning, nutritional status, and well-being of women of reproductive age and children under six years of age, with an emphasis on the 1,000-day window,
strengthen inclusion of children and adults with disabilities, and improve positive parenting and child development. Umuhuza Organisation as a consortium member in INECD Gikuriro Kuri Bose delivers Early Childhood Development services with an emphasis on strengthening capacity and skills of ECD service providers, parents and caregivers in 10 districts ( Burera, Rulindo, Nyabihu, Ngoma, Kayonza, Nyamasheke, Nyanza, Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, and Rwamagana.)
