Literacy

Literacy Boost Community Action project :

In 2013, Save the Children, in partnership with Rwandan organization Umuhuza, launched its Education Signature Programme, Advancing the Right to Read in Rwanda. The program both reflects Save the Children’s core organizational priorities around education and learning and also helps support the Government of Rwanda’s commitment to improve children’s literacy and reading, and its overall goal of creating a strong culture of reading throughout the country.

Mureke Dusome project :
Mureke Dusome ( which means ‘Let’s Read !’) is a 4-year USAID-funded project that aims to foster partnerships between schools and the broader community in a bid to improve literacy outcomes for children in primary prages 1-3. The project was implemented by Umuhuza Organisation in partnership
with Save the Children.

GREAT project :
With the funds of Global Affairs Canada, Umuhuza in partnership with Right to Play implemented Great project in Three districts : Ruhango, Bugesera and Kayonza from 2020 to 2022. Under the project 3 community libraries were established. The project aimed to improve quality education for girls &boys by promoting the culture of reading and writing at the primary school level through a sustainable and replicable child-centered, play-based learning model.

Bank of Kigali project :
In 2021, with the support of Bank of Kigali Umuhuza established 3 community libraries and equipped them with books, computers, and sitting furniture in Rutunga sector, Gasabo district.

Access to Digital and Inclusive Literacy Environment :
With the support of UNESCO Rwanda Commission, Umuhuza is implementing a 8-month project titled, “Access to Digital and Inclusive Literacy Environment,” with the aim to equip the just established community libraries in Rutunga sector with inclusive and digital literacy resources.
