WHO WE ARE

Umuhuza in Rwanda’s native language means “a link through mediation”. Since 2005, Umuhuza has invested more efforts in focusing their work on a culture of peace with a vision to build a peaceful society in which communities live in harmony, mutual respect and dignity as a response to the consequences of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. When Umuhuza started in the country, consequences of the genocide were still many ; a big number of orphans, widows and refugees. It was a time when the country had set up home grown initiatives to reconstruct the nation such as Gacaca courts, Abunzi ( mediation committees). The organisation started with a vision to give our portion in the reconstruction of the country with an emphasis on promoting a culture of peace to solve conflicts, starting by educating parents on positive parenting so that they raise their children as seeds of peace that will become champions of peace in the future. Over the years, our interventions have had a significant impact towards the transformation of Rwandan society.
